PRESERVING AND PROTECTING SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE

Will Visit Senior Centers in Springfield, Southbridge and Milford with leading Senior Advocate


(SPRINGFIELD) Congressman Richard E. Neal will visit senior centers and living facilities in western and central Massachusetts tomorrow with the President of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare to talk about the importance of protecting these critical benefits for future generations, and fighting against the their proposed privatization. House Republicans, led by Congressman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, have once again pledged to privatize Social Security and Medicare and raise the retirement age to 70.


Mrs. Barabara Kennelly is the President and CEO of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare. She also represented the state of Connecticut in the U.S. House of Representatives. She will travel with Congressman Neal during his tour of the Second Congressional District on Thursday. Throughout her career, Mrs. Kennelly has advocated for Social Security, Medicare and other health and retirement issues. Congressman Neal, who was raised on Social Security survivor benefits, is recognized as a national leader in the effort to preserve and protect these benefits for our nation's seniors.


Congressman Neal will also be making a stop in Southbridge for the groundbreaking of a rail-trail in the South County community.  The following is a copy of his public schedule.  Events listed are open to the press.
