SPRINGFIELD – Congressman Richie Neal’s re-election effort has been endorsed by the North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters (NASRCC) and Carpenters Union Local 336, covering Central and Western Massachusetts.

“As someone who lives and works in Berkshire County, I know I can count on Chairman Neal to represent us. Richie Neal hasn’t forgotten where he came from nor did he forget the grind that working people face to get through each and every day,” said Tim Craw, Business Representative Carpenters Union Local 336 and President of the Berkshire Building Trades. “He cares about our issues and is a champion for the working person. His tenacity in fighting for an economy that works for all and for everyone to be able to retire with dignity set him apart.”

“Chairman Neal has always been a great friend to working people though his tireless advocacy for good jobs in his district,” said David Minasian, Regional Manager Carpenters Union Local 336. “He understands an economy is not strong when only those at the top benefit and when illegal business practices like wage theft and tax fraud continue to hurt workers. Chairman Neal has lead the way on legislation that will help working people deal with the Covid19 crisis giving a much needed life line when people are struggling the most.”

In the endorsement, NASRCC Executive Secretary-Treasurer Joseph Byrne praised Congressman Neal, saying, “We appreciate your consistent support for our members and all parts of the labor community at home and in Washington.” He continued, making note of Congressman Neal’s advocacy for working families particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 global pandemic:

“We are deeply grateful for your recent leadership during the current COVID-19 crisis and your efforts to passing legislation to provide care to workers, extend supplemental unemployment insurance, and provide much needed help to states and localities. We are also thankful that it included, in the recent Heroes Act, our top priority requests of a 100% COBRA subsidy for laid-off workers and comprehensive pension reform. We believe that these legislative efforts will be highly beneficial to our communities and our members.”

The House-passed Heroes Act would continue critical, emergency federal unemployment benefits through January 31, 2021, to ensure that basic economic support is available until workers are able to return to their jobs safely. The measure is just one in a series of efforts led by Congressman Neal and House leadership to protect the health and well-being of Americans during a time of unprecedented economic crisis.

The North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters represents 28,000 carpenters, pile drivers, shop and millmen, and floorcoverers working throughout New England and New York state.
